The Little Things

Most of these little things that have somehow filled the big spaces of my heart have come to me through the kindness of others around me.

Last Thursday, I stumbled on a movie on Netflix while at my neighbour’s, so we all decided to watch it: that was the faucet that released the tears I’ve been storing up for sometime, seeing I haven’t cried in a while.

The movie: Miracles from Heaven

I’m not going to give any spoilers, so if like me, once in a while you need to remind yourself that you are human and not a robot, go find and watch it. It’s a true story, and that’s all I’ll say.

After watching the movie, I began a journey of ardent introspection. There have been so many times when I felt as though God wasn’t working wonders in my life, the kind of wonder that make you stop and turn, scream and shout, tap a random person on the road just to share the story. But how more wrong could I have been? And in my introspection, I realised that God has worked more wonders in me and around me, more than I can narrate; wonders so interconnected, that without them, I probably would have been in a straitjacket rolling around in some padded room.

I found something I wrote last year that quite sums it up, so I’ll share it, and hope you get a thing or two.

Today I want to take the time to thank you for the little ways you blow my mind
Today I want to contemplate on all the little ways you save me
Today I want to meditate on the little things you do that helps me hear “I love you”
Today, it’s all in the little ways, and the little things, little me is mindful of You.
In every morning I wake, with the mercies for the day
In every step I take, and your guiding all the way
In every sound, I hear you say “My love for you will never end”
It’s in the little things, Jesus, it’s in the little things!
With every smile I receive that lights up the depths of my heart
The water running down, cleansing my body, quenching my thirst
The wind outside my window, blowing leaves and all my fears away
It’s in the little ways, Jesus, it’s in the little ways!
My baby sleeps longer; I feel you give a helping hand
My food sure tastes sweeter, when you’re here cooking with me
My love loves me better when your love is all he feels
It’s in the little things, Jesus, it’s in the little things!
Snow falls in April and you’re brightening all my darkness
The birds sing so softly: there, you wrote me a love song
I fall asleep while I pray, and still your eyes are over me
It’s in the little ways, Jesus, it’s in the little ways!
These things I think are little aren’t so little as they seem
They show me every day I wake, my life means much to you
So Jesus, if you wouldn’t mind I’ll like to show you too
In my little way, just how much your little things and little ways mean all the world to me!

– The Little Ways (28/04/16)

Today I tried to share at church the little ways God has amazed me with miracles, but there wasn’t much time to say any; I really wished everyone could hear so they also can see their miracles too, and be grateful. So if you’re reading this today, and you think your life is void of wonders from God, think again . . .

You’re alive, that’s a wonder.

You can read, that’s another wonder.

You understand everything you have read; wonder for all the years.

So yes, you are a wonder, and your life is filled with wonders, just open your eyes, and your heart . . . you’ll see.

little

One more thing. Most of these little things that have somehow filled the big spaces of my heart have come to me through the kindness of others around me. The smiles, the hugs, the help one way or the other, the unconditional love displayed through hearts that desired nothing in return . . . and the mercies given, even though undeserved. There are many ways the wonders of the love of God have brightened up my life because there were people who in spite of what they might be going through, decided to stop and look my way. I owe them the same to others, and by God, I hope to be a miracle to someone too.

Care to join me?

enjoy

  2. O for grace to be thankful for the seemingly little things. For the traffic light that turned green when I was approaching and had a deadline to beat. For the child that innocently waved at me at church with the brightest smile ever. For friends He leads to check up on me and pray in the midst of turbulent situations without their knowing. I’m thankful for the word He sent to me in Isaiah 62:12 through the writer of this article which I have held unto.

May I also be a miracle to those around me always.

    Thank you T-girl as always!
