3 Day Quote Challenge #2

It tells me that I can be the light in the darkness of the world around me; and imagine if we all decided to be a light?

Hi guys.

I got nominated by Stefan to join the 3 Day Quote challenge. One thing this has done for me is keep me alert in my heart, searching for what I might want to share in these 3 days. I have loved every moment, because it has dug out things that I had either forgotten, or forgot to apply. And thinking about them again has sparked fire in me, or fuelled one already burning. So, once again, thank you Stefan for this beautiful opportunity. I really can’t thank you enough. (Go ahead guys, click on his name if you already haven’t and thank me later)

As with challenges, here are the ground rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you (Thank you, Stefan . . . again ☺️)
  2. Post a quote each day, for 3 consecutive days and say why it appeals to you.
  3. Nominate 3 different bloggers each day! 🙂

Talking about digging up things hidden in my heart, last night, as I knelt to say a prayer with Boo of life, a song popped out of my depths; a song I hadn’t sung in a really long while. Truth be told, I have never heard this song sang anywhere else but in my home growing up. I remember the days during family devotion when my dad would raise it and we would all sing in a chorus, even though at that time I really didn’t understand the depths of its meaning. But I sang, cos the tune is touchy like that 🙈

This is the song I’m going to share today, I hope it’ll pass as a quote.

Now I always like to be accurate, so I went online to find the lyrics to make sure I share the right one. But to my amazement, I found it on just one (1) website. It’s almost as though the song hasn’t been shared to the world. So I’m glad to share it here. One more thing: I realised that the words of the song as taught by my dad is slightly different from what I found online. So I’ll share the difference, but stick wholeheartedly to the one my dad taught me, because the words reach a bit deeper than what I found today.

Here we go!

Shine through me
Shine through me
Lord make my life a stream of light for everyone to see
A shining loving living light
(A flowing reaching loving light) online version
Is what I need to be
So take control
Ignite my soul
And shine through me

Turn on your TV and listen to the news. All that gets out is one bad news after the other. It’s almost as though there is no good in the world anymore. And that’s why this song has meant and still means so much to me. It tells me that I can be the light in the darkness of the world around me; and imagine if we all decided to be a light? The version my dad taught reads ‘a shining loving living light’ . . . oh the depth of those words. A living light shining with love: that’s who I want to be, every day. Don’t you want to be that too? Just like Jesus? We could be the difference in our neighbourhood, at work, at school, even on the street, if we decide to shine with the love of God everywhere we go, everyday of our lives, in every way!

So, “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 MSG

God bless us all 😍
