But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’
This verse pricks me deep inside. I think about all the gifts and talents that my gracious God so mercifully placed inside of me and I ask myself if I have invested every single one of them, or am I wickedly and lazily burying them in the ground?
Of course, the answer is clear enough to me. There are lots that I have allowed to lie fallow, and if my Lord calls it wickedness, He surely must take it seriously.
I must find within myself the grace He has given to bring to use every gift and talent for His glory so that from His lips I will hear:
“Wicked and Lazy” “Good and Faithful Servant”!
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little, I will put you in charge of many things; share in the joy of your master.’
How about you?
