Songs in the Darkness

Yesterday was . . .

But God!

And through the darkness, He sang to me, and He still rejoices over me with singing.

Today, I share my ‘Songs in the Darkness’, so I’ll never forget His words to my heart . . . and so that you, if you find yourself in the dark, will know He is singing over you!

He started out with a song He gave me a few weeks ago. I only have a voice recording of me singing it and I’m unable to attach it to this post, but here are the words:

As I Wait

Verse 1
There’s a place I want to be
It’s in the presence of my King
Feel his mercy cover me
As I wait

There is a song I want to sing
Hidden within the depths of me
A song of deep surrendering
As I wait

In the silence of the morning
In the darkness of the night
In the moments when I’m giving up the fight

Chorus
Lord won’t you come to me
Won’t you shield me in?
I know that I can’t make it on my own
So, won’t you come to me
Won’t you lead me where
I’m covered by your shelter
As I wait, I will surrender
Laying all my burdens right there at your throne
As I wait

Verse 2
There is a shadow lingering
Forcing my faith to fade away
Releasing doubt and unbelief
As I wait

But there is a light from above
Piercing the dark inside of me
Releasing songs of victory
As I wait

In the silence of the morning
In the darkness of the night
In the moments when I’m giving up the fight

Chorus
Lord will you come to me
Will you shield me in?
I know I cannot make it on my own
So, will you come to me
Will you lead me where
I’m covered by your shelter
As I wait, I will surrender
Laying all my burdens right there at your throne
As I wait

Bridge
You will deliver
(As I wait)
So I surrender
(As I wait)
Your still small voice is drowning all my fears
(As I wait)
I won’t grow weary
(As I wait)
For you are with me
(As I wait)
For those who wait upon the Lord renew their strength
Put on my armour
(As I wait)
I’m praying some more
(As I wait)
Because I know the battle is the Lord’s
(As I wait)
I’m not defeated
(As I wait)
I know you’re risen
(As I wait)
I will stay waiting on the Lord . . .

Chorus
Lord you have come to me
You have shielded me
I know I couldn’t make it on my own
You have come to me
You have led me where
I’m covered by your shelter
And I know I’ll stay surrendered
You have carried all my burdens far away
As I wait

The first lines of this song, in fact, every word, was me. I needed the peace of the Lord to flood my heart. The only place I could run was to the Prince of Peace. This song spoke of my race to Him:

How did I get to where I was yesterday? How did I get there again? I felt lost, I needed His light to find me in the dark. This song speaks my heart:

The devil came for my identity – our frequent battlefield. He said a lot to me, and I was holding on to his words even when deep down I know he’s such a liar . . . Only Jesus is TRUTH, and only what He says about me is TRUE! This song lifted my spirit to believe again:

I was in the valley again. It was dark. It was cold. How did I get here again? I asked, “God, where are you?” and he answered, He said, “I am here”. He is the God of the hills and the valleys, I’m never alone:

When the devil comes for you, he wants you to believe that you are not loved. He wants you to think you are alone. But when Truth shines in your heart, you’ll realise that you are the most important thing to the GOD of all CREATION. This song reminded me of how much God loves me:

When the Lord shows up, it’s amazing how He turns everything around . . . He’s the only One who can! This is my testimony:

There are many other songs that speak my heart, but in the dark, these are my songs. I hope every word reaches your heart.

Thank you to everyone who said a prayer for me, I pray the Lord keeps His light shining on you.

If you want to listen to the recording of the first song, let me know, and I’ll find some way to get it to you.

In the dark, keep singing!

  1. I have always loved Tauren Wells…….Hills and Valleys! Worship music always lifts me. I have gotten into a season of taking my phone & ear buds and going outside and playing my fav worship songs to worship before I open my Bible and devotions. I can only watch what is in my yard, but I see beautiful blooms, palm trees, hummingbirds and even small lizards running around. It is the beauty of the desert. But the music makes it and lifts my spirit when I am in a hard place. So I loved your post and all you said here! Blessings dear one!

    1. You know I’ve always tried to imagine what it’ll be like to live in your area, it’s much from where I am, but the thing is God puts beauty in our eyes as we look through His, and no matter what is before us, it’s beauty! And how much more beautiful will it be when we worship. Thanks, Maxine, your words always encourage me.

  2. Your song is beautiful. Just know that the darkness has no power over you, no matter how oppressive it may be, at times. For, Jesus conquered the darkness, and he turned us from the darkness to his light, and from the power of Satan to God, if we are truly his, by faith in him. But, Satan is our enemy, and he will tempt us and he will try to put thoughts into our minds which we must fight off with the armor of God. But, the battle is already won. Jesus won it on the cross. We just have to take up that cross daily and follow Jesus, and daily put on that armor of God with which to fight off Satan’s evil attacks against us. And, one way in which we can fight off Satan’s evil schemes against us is by singing songs of victory and of overcoming the darkness and of praise and adoration to our Lord. So, praise the Lord for the song he gave you to sing! Love you!!
